Our first night in Hongkong was mostly spent in shopping. I truly admire their rail transit, it’s very convenient to commuters of every kind – locals or foreigners – and timely as well, a taxi is not a necessity here if you are a tourist. At first, we roamed the malls and stores near our hotel; by the way, we stayed at Parklane Hotel at Causeway Bay, fronting the Victoria Park. We strolled along the streets of causeway bay and gone window shopping at the Times Square. And of course, we didn’t get to buy anything here as their prices were much much more beyond our budget as the stores were really that high end.

We then proceeded to Mongkok, for a night market shopping and also to look for the factory outlets of Esprit and Giordano, unfortunately, we found only the Esprit, and Bossini… in here, we pour our hearts and dollars out for a grand pasalubong shopping. I got myself an Esprit bag and a pair of Esprit socks. And the rest that filled my travelling bag were for my loved ones.

Every year, we have this Asia Pacific Independence Meeting, wherein Independence team from each asia pacific member firms gather for a workshop/training/meeting regarding the initiatives of Deloitte on independence. Last year it was held in Bangkok, Thailand, which i failed to blog here..

The trip to HongKong is quite memorable, and i guess, a trip that i will not forget.

Our flight is 8am and upon checking in the Philippine Airlines at Terminal 2, we were advised that we might be denied of boarding due to overbooking of the airline, (again! i was previously denied of boarding an aircraft too, airphils, but that’s to local destination only) and was given a choice of getting in the next flight but will be upgraded to business class or to wait until 3pm but we will be given P3,000 and a free roundtrip ticket to Hongkong that is valid for 1 year. Though our meeting will formally start the next day, and we actually can afford to travel that late, but it is also important to us to commence our shopping and sightseeing early, so we just decided to take the next flight in a business class, still a very good bargain!

We arrived at Hongkong airport at around 12noon, so many visitors were in the immigration queue, its good that they (HongKong authorities) provided lots of immigration windows and therefore made the transactions speedy. When it is my turn in the immigration, i immediately hand to the officer my travel documents, after he examines it he sort of look puzzled and uneasy, then stares back at me from time to time. I was rattled for a moment, as i saw him write in a form “not approved for entry”, you just can’t imagine how nervous i am, and he called some other officer and handed my documents to him, i was then told to wait a while as he entertains the next visitor. I was called to wait in the immigration office as they clear whatever issue they saw in my records or travel documents, and i tried to ask them what is the problem, but they just dont want to talk to me and i barely heard them speak in english, so i was really nervous and upset as well, then i was called back to the queue, a different window, then the same thing happened.. then finally on the third try, my passport was stamped for entry.

I just figured that the problem could be my airline ticket, as my name was misspelled, but the ticketing agent assured me before i left Phils that it has been cleared in the airline and was changed. That i think is still not okay, as i was sort of detained for quite some time as the immigration officers figure out if i will be allowed to enter their country =(
